Unraveling the Threads:

Craftsman Rugs, Mission Style Rugs and Arts & Crafts Style Rugs
The Arts & Crafts movement, born in the late 19th century, was a philosophical movement that prized individual handcraft over mass production. While the terms Arts & Crafts, Craftsman and Mission all refer to the same overarching ethos, connoisseurs have distinguished subtle differences over the years. Arts & Crafts style rugs often incorporate more intricate or complicated designs with nature motifs like Victorian-era design in England. Craftsman rugs typically feature simple, geometric patterns and earthy tones. And Mission-style rugs embrace minimalism with strong, rectilinear forms. Our collection spans this spectrum, offering rugs that complement your home's unique character, whatever your interpretation of Arts & Crafts may be.
Artistry Sets Our Craftsman Rugs Apart

Unmatched Durability
It starts with the sheep. Nomadic shepherds in Tibet raise their flocks at high very altitudes. The conditions of their environment increase the content of lanolin—a waxy, protective and waterproofing substance—in their sheep’s wool. During shearing season, the wool is transported to Kathmandu where it is hand processed and hand dyed without bleaching to protect the lanolin. Preserving the lanolin creates natural stain and water resistance in the finished product.

Authentic Artisanship
Each rug is hand-knotted in Nepal by skilled craftspeople, honoring Arts & Crafts traditions. The process, from shearing to dyeing to crafting, is completed by hand.

Alluring Abrash
Far from a flaw, abrash—subtle, natural color variations within the rug—is a hallmark of authentic, handcrafted rugs that mass-produced carpets can't match. These gentle color transitions pay homage to the Arts & Crafts movement's appreciation for natural materials and handmade quality, making each rug a unique work of art that will enrich your historic home's interior.
